Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge

While I love walking in my neighborhood, I admit I was getting tired of seeing the same old park and houses every day. It was time to see something a little more rustic and less manicured.

A quick drive out of the city leads you to a beautiful turn off that looks almost completely untouched.
Only $5 per person gets you full access to all the trails and nature center. All trails are completely dog friendly so our dog, Riley usually joins us. You get a complete trail map at the gatehouse when you arrive to help plan your path. The staff is very knowledgeable and can give tips or suggestions as needed. Each trail is unique with variable landscapes. Caprock Trail has a higher elevation with rocky terrain while Prairie Trail has more of a grassland feel with beautiful wildflowers. River Bottom trail winds along the lakeshore amongst dense shade trees. We typically see rabbits and a variety of deer and raccoon tracks on the trails as well. The entire area is beautiful and great for all skill levels. Just remember to bring water for you and your four-legged pal.

My husband and I currently working to hike all 20 miles of the trails over the next few months!
